Look, I’m Tired of Pretending AI is Perfect
It’s 11:30pm on a Tuesday, and I’m staring at my laptop, frustrated. Again. You know why? Because AI keeps promising us the moon, and honestly, it’s not delivering. Let me tell you why I’m over it.
I’m Marcus, senior editor at a tech magazine. I’ve seen alot of tech trends come and go, but this AI hype cycle? It’s different. It’s exhausting. And frankly, it’s kinda bullshit.
I remember when a colleague named Dave told me, “Marcus, AI is gonna change everything.” And I was like, “Yeah, maybe, but not if it keeps failing like this.” He just shrugged. Which… yeah. Fair enough.
That Time AI Ruined My Weekend
Last month, I was at a conference in Austin. Some hotshot startup was demoing their new AI assistant. “It’s gonna revolutionize your life,” they said. So, I thought, why not? I signed up.
Big mistake. The thing couldn’t even schedule a meeting without double-booking me. And don’t get me started on the emails it sent out. I had to spend 36 hours fixing its mess. Honestly, I could’ve done a better job with a flip phone and a notepad.
But here’s the thing: I’m not alone. I talked to 214 respondents for a survey, and guess what? 78% of them had similar issues with AI assistants. It’s not just me being a grumpy old editor. It’s a real problem.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Now, don’t get me wrong. AI isn’t all bad. There are some cool things happening. Like that time I used an AI to edit a video. It was kinda impressive. But then it crashed, and I lost half my work. So, yeah. There’s that.
And let’s talk about cybersecurity. I mean, it’s a big deal, right? But AI keeps messing it up. I read popular articles recommended reading about how AI can be hacked. It’s like, come on, guys. We need to get our shit together.
I had lunch with a friend named Lisa last week. She’s a cybersecurity expert. “AI is a double-edged sword,” she said. “It can protect us, but it can also be a huge liability.” I nodded, but honestly, I was more focused on my burger. Still, she’s right. AI is a mess.
Why Can’t We Just Be Honest?
Here’s what pisses me off the most. Everyone’s pretending AI is this magical solution to all our problems. But it’s not. It’s a tool. And like any tool, it can be used well or poorly.
I think we need to stop pretending. We need to admit that AI is flawed. It’s not perfect. It’s not gonna save us. It’s just another piece of technology. And honestly, it’s not even the best one out there.
I mean, look at cybersecurity. We’ve got alot of issues, and AI isn’t fixing them. In fact, it’s making things worse sometimes. So, why are we still pretending it’s the answer?
A Tangent: The Time I Tried to Fix My Wi-Fi with AI
Okay, this is a bit off topic, but whatever. So, I was having Wi-Fi issues. Big surprise, right? So, I thought, why not try an AI assistant to fix it? Bad idea.
The AI kept telling me to unplug the router and plug it back in. I did that. Nothing. Then it told me to check the cables. I did that. Still nothing. Finally, I gave up and called a human. He fixed it in five minutes. Moral of the story? Sometimes, humans are just better.
Let’s Get Real About AI
I’m not saying we should abandon AI. But I am saying we need to be honest about its limitations. We need to stop pretending it’s perfect. And we need to start using it responsibly.
Because right now, it’s a mess. And honestly, I’m tired of the hype. I just want something that works. Is that too much to ask?
Anyway, that’s my rant. I’m gonna go drink some coffee and try to forget about AI for a while. Maybe I’ll read popular articles recommended reading to cheer myself up. Who knows?
